“Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians.”
Education is an investment that appreciates with time. It is one of the only thing that makes sense to buy on credit, since an education always appreciates more than the loan to get it. Learning enables us to create things of great worth. Had Nephi not been taught the learning of the Jews he would not have been able to write his contribution to the BOM, including creating the gold plates on which the record was written. (see also 1N1:17)
President Hinckley has likewise counseled us to obtain as much education as we can, which will put us not only in a better position financially for our family, but also enable us to have a greater spiritual capacity since with that knowledge we will be better able to study the scriptures.

Regarding Education, the knowledge we gain on this earth is also one of the very few things among a small group, that we can actually take with us beyond this life. It does not only appreciate in this life, but also the next.
Among the other things we can take with us are our talents, abilities and characteristics. One of those characteristics is our attitude toward the material possessions we have.
