“And it came to pass that they did rejoice exceedingly, and did offer sacrifice and burnt offerings unto the Lord; and they gave thanks unto the God of Israel.”
Keep in mind now… Lehi’s family had just fled from Jerusalem a short while ago and perhaps still had concerns about whether or not they were pursued by the Jews. Lehi’s once rich abundance is gone and all they have is what they brought with them. To take one of their precious animals and offer it as a burnt offering was truly a sacrifice for them.
This example of putting the Lord first is another example of true faith and putting the Lord first in one’s life. We don’t know what kind of offering was given, perhaps a thanks offering, but either way, it was their food source that they offered unto the Lord.
How many of us will similarly put the Lord first in our finances? Do we freely give our tithing? Do we give a generous fast offering, especially when it hurts a little? This type of sacrifice based on faith is what will open the doors of heaven on our behalf.
