I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not;

I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not;

1 Nephi 17:12-13

“For the Lord had not hitherto suffered that we should make much fire, as we journeyed in the wilderness; for he said: I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not;
And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led. ”

The thought of eating raw meat turns my stomach. But if its that or starvation, I’m sure I’d go for it. Of course, if the Lord made it sweet, it might not be so bad, especially after 8 years of getting used to it. Whats truly interesting about this is that the Lord was giving them pretty specific instructions that we only find out about as an explanation about lighting a fire. There likely was a lot of other specific instruction received that we don’t know about.

This is another example of how the Lord “prepares the way before us” if we are keeping the commandments. As we tap into the sytem that God has setup through our faith and obedience, the Lord makes our burdens lighter and lights the way before us. This is how personal revelation is clearer to those who are doing whats right. The way is lighted for them, so they can see the way better.

As we prepare our finances, the way can be lit for us also. As we pay our tithing and fast offerings, and generally obey the commandments, the Lord will show us the way to live within our means. He won’t necessarily give us wealth immediately, but he will ensure our needs are met, as he did Lehi’s family in the wilderness. When we see the Lord meeting our needs, we should give thanks, for we will “know that it is by Him that we are led.”

I’ve seen many examples of this in peoples’ lives, including my own life. When I was working for a large company, everytime I had another child (I have 5) I got a raise within a month or so. Those preparations had to be in place months ahead of time to be cleared. I thank the Lord for constantly providing for me and my families needs.

What examples have you seen where the Lord has prepared the way for you?

    If anything more than our daily bread, shelter and clothing is excess we are all pretty rich. Even our poor have at least two TVs and a car.

    No doubt. Many of us in North America take for granted the blessings we have received.
    I suppose the question we should ask is not do we deserve these things, or are we too rich (in excess), but do we give thanks to God for the plenty we receive, and do we use our plenty to bless the lives of others also?
